Fluffy's take is definitely legit to a point, however I must suck because I was playing a guy the other day who onsided twice (once in the 2nd quarter and once in the 3rd quarter and he got the ball both times mostly because I couldn't audible until it was too late) You could tell he knew what he was doing as well. I just haven't figured out the audible to cover it yet. I think the chances of recovering an onside in this game are a higher percentage (especially when you are in a kick return coverage) than real college games. I watch a lot of college football and I don't see many onside kicks until they are absolutely necessary to try and win the game and then when I do see them they rarely work at that. If we want to keep this game legit and play it like it is supposed to be played there shouldn't be any onside kicks before necessary.

yeah.. i totally understand the need to put in place such rules as we have discussed but at the same time i just wanna go out and play some games and not worry too much about if what im doing is legal or not.. im just looking for a set place to have a game every 4 or 5 days.. but again i understand why these rules need to be put in place and excessive onside kicks should definitely not be allowed, but if a couple happen here or there (again i probably never will do any unless its necessary) i think the opponent should just deal. and make adjustments to it.. like i said 90% of the time its gonna benefit the person whos getting onside kicked on anyway.. probly higher than 90%

I usually only kick the onside as a surprise.
Your chances of recovering are slim, but greatly increased if you're not able to audible in time to onside recover, but you still have to kick it correctly.
Also, I look at it as risk/reward. With 1:00 left I trust my D to hold at the end of the half, but with a first down they're almost in FG range.
Since I usually receive I like to try and get that extra 1st half posession sometimes.
The reason I asked though is that I use the quick kick strat in trying to get it off before the audible. You can kick it short and not get it; or too far and your guys won't be able to get to it. I know that by doing that people may consider that cheap, but I look at it like when my eyes light up when I know when an all-out blitz is coming and a quick pass is going to work.
